HOT CUT BORDER

Hot Cut Border is the simplest and most commonly used border. Despite its simplicity, this type of border looks excellent on patches. The patch gets cut out by scissors or a laser.

Advantage – reliability, different thickness. By using threads of the same color as in embroidered patch, you can make complicated borders (Cut Out Border).

Moreover, EmbroSoft performs special heat treatment (border baking). So, the border doesn’t become fluffy or unraveled while being used.

Disadvantages – we can see only one.

Border and a patch background might have different colors (for example, the border is white, and the background is red). There is a thin red edge. It’s impossible to cut off the edge because you can accidentally cut border threads.
In this case, an overlocked border (Merrowed) looks better than Hot Cut Border.

However, the specialists from EmbroSoft have found a partial solution to this problem. And now, patches with Hot Cut border looks as good as patches with Merrowed border.I.e., it is possible to imitate Merrowed border for patches with a complicated shape.

MERROWED BORDER

Overlocked border or Merrowed border – this is a classical border.
To make such border, Merrow makes special overlockers (overstitching machines). That’s why border got the name of Merrowed border.

Advantages – beautiful, classic look. There is no thin edge (background) like in Hot Cut Border.

Disadvantages:

  • it is impossible to make a border with complicate shape (only round, oval, square, rectangle, triangle, shield-shaped, etc.);
  • the width of the border is limited to 2-4 mm (for instance, a Cut Out Border can be made in sizes from 0.3 mm to 7 mm and wider);
  • it is impossible to make Merrowed border for patches that are less than 2 cm.

However, despite all these disadvantages, Merrowed border is top standard for patch edging.
